8 months!

August came and went in the blink of an eye and suddenly, Ryker is 8 months old! Accomplishments include crawling, cruising and cutting his first tooth.

In July, Ryker began Army crawling/swimming. You can probably imagine the Army crawl on his elbows, but he also had his legs and feet propelling him forward. It was very entertaining and he got quite fast!

Around the weekend of the 18th of August, he finally figured out what his knees were for, although if he got excited he'd drop down to his tummy, on which he was still faster. As that next week progressed, he learned the potential of true crawling and he's stayed up ever since! Most of the time, his new found talent leads to trouble, his favorite destination being the fireplace. Luckily, the last few days he's learned the word "no" and actually honors our request...at least for now!

Another exciting achievement in the last few weeks is cruising. Ryker has always loved to stand up and see the world around him, but now he's found he can move himself in this prone position if he's holding on to something or someone. Anyone who's been to our house has asked about the square, stone coffee table with sharp edges and how we plan to keep Ryker off, well it turns out, it's a great jungle gym! Ryker can pull himself up easily and loves to wonder around it, smacking his hands or banging whatever toy/item is in his hand on it. The square shape allows us to have a small refuge in the middle for whatever items he shouldn't have, although that will continue to shrink as he grows.

The last big news is Ryker got his first tooth on Friday the 31st of August! With on and off again excessive drooling since the age of three months, plus many sleepless nights in between, there is finally a tooth!! The tooth is the bottom left, which was surprising because the bottom right was (and still is) very swollen, with an almost blister like appearance. We are certain he'll have two teeth any day!

Ryker has also had his share of viruses and other maladies. In an eight day period, he had croup, thrush, his first tooth, an ear infection and confirmation of very low iron. You'd think this combination would make for a grumpy baby, but he continued to be happy and playful.

Now we are working on sleeping through the night...which is getting better!
